Upcoming Interview: Brandie June

Brandie June will be my very first guest on the All By My Shelf podcast. And you can ask her a question. Just become a supporter for as little as $5 a month.

Brandie’s Bio

Growing up, I spent most of my time either reading or on stage. I initially moved to Los Angeles to be an actor and studied theatre at UCLA. I later branched out into costume design, playwriting and eventually to writing novels. Writing is now my primary passion. I love storytelling in all sorts of formats and spend my days marketing animated movies and my evenings writing fantasy novels. I am fascinated with the history of mythology, and many of my stories have some basis in myths or classic fairytales.

I devour books, especially of the audio variety, as commuting in Los Angeles means lot of time in the car. My GoodReads yearly reading goal is 65. When not writing, I can often be found in dancing, playing board games, finding a reason to wear a costume, and providing my puppies with many belly rubs.

Gold Spun

If Nor can’t spin gold, she can always spin lies.

When seventeen-year-old Nor rescues a captured faerie in the woods, he gifts her with a magical golden thread she can use to summon him for a favor. Instead, Nor uses it for a con—to convince villagers to buy straw that can be transformed into gold. Her trick works a little too well, attracting the suspicion of Prince Casper, who hates nobody more than a liar. Intent on punishing Nor, he demands that she spin a room of straw into gold and as her reward, he will marry her. Should she refuse or fail, the consequences will be dire.

She holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults, an MA in Writing, and a BA in Writing Arts (specializing in Creative Writing, New Media Writing, and Publication; concentrating in New Media Production), which she somehow managed to earn despite her three very loud and large dogs. Jessica was lucky enough to intern at Quirk Books and Picador, USA while earning her master’s degrees. Her service dog, Ringo, is very proud of all that she has accomplished and hopes to be on a back cover of a published book with her very soon. An avid reader, writer, and lover of young adult and middle-grade literature, Jessica’s bookshelf is overflowing with hardbacks, paperbacks, and a million half-filled notebooks. She is a proud fur-mommy to two lab/st-bernard littermates, a retriever-mix service dog, and one orange little hobgoblin cat, all of whom have made very audible appearances on the Booked All Night podcast.
